Real Men Read in kindergarten was a huge success. This is one of the favorite events that we do at Bernard Long Elementary!!! Thank you to all of these amazing men for taking time out of your day to come and read to the kiddos. You made such an impact in the short time you read. Today was very exciting, loving and powerful! We appreciate each and everyone of you. The kiddos are already ready for you to come back tomorrow!!

We will be having a 1/2 day early release for the district tomorrow, Tuesday, April 14th. We are moving the 1/2 day from Friday, April 17th due to an emergency situation with the air conditioning unit at the jr/sr high school. Students will start at their usual times. Elementary will dismiss at 10:30am, Junior High at 11:00am, and High School 11:30.
We will still have testing tomorrow, please make every effort to have your student at the schools on time.
We apologize for the inconvenience. The safety of staff are of primary concerns.

Students who do not have a signed permission slip by this date will not be able to participate. If you did not receive a permission slip, please notify the Bernard Long office by Monday.

Our districtwide testing starts tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7th. It is important that your student arrives at their school building on time and ready to learn. Make sure students get a good night's rest so they can excel on their test in the morning!

IAR testing will begin on April 6, 2026 for students in grades 3–8. This is an important assessment, and we appreciate your support in helping your child do their best.
Please help by ensuring your child:
Arrives to school on time
Is present each day during testing
Gets a good night’s rest
Eats a healthy breakfast (at home or at school)
We will administer one test per day through April 25.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s school.

Bernard Long Elementary STEAM students celebrated St. Patrick's Day with creative engineering! Upper elementary engineers designed rainbow bridges to support weighted cauldrons, testing structural strength. Meanwhile, lower elementary students explored art and science by creating custom dyed paper using rainbow colors.

Mrs. Bollini's Eighth Grade ELA students’ culminating activity for our novel study of The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.
After studying the book & various activities mastering state standards, students watched the movie while enjoying novel-related food & drinks.
Then they dive deeply into the standard of Characterization by creating a character analysis called a Body Biography.

18 MHS students competed in the Senior Olympiad Competition Event was held March 18 at Center Grove Presbyterian Church, Edwardsville, Illinois. The purpose of the event is to challenge and recognize gifted students in math, science, or other subjects.

Madison Family: We had an incredible turnout at our IAR Family Night with 139 parents and students in attendance! Thank you to everyone who came out to support our students and learn more about how we can work together for their success.
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is an important opportunity for students to show what they know and how they’ve grown throughout the year. It helps guide instruction, supports student achievement, and gives us valuable insight into how we can continue to improve as a school community.
Our testing window is April 7th–April 20th, and we are excited to see our students shine! Thank you again for your continued partnership and support—we truly couldn’t do this work without you.
