Welcome back letter
2009-2010 School Year - Together We Can
by Tamara Tique-Sunkett
Dear Madison High School Family:
Welcome back! We’re happy to have our students returning to school
and offer a special welcome to the new students joining our
neighborhood. We want all students to be happy and successful at
Madison Accelerated High School. We believe that parents/guardians
play a key role in a student’s success by showing interest and
giving support. Students who have family involvement will almost
always have fewer problems in school.
We believe in fair and consistent discipline that encourages
students to be responsible for their decisions. We promote and work
to ensure a safe environment where courtesy and kindness prevail
and where respect for learning, for self and others is key. Most of
all MAHS is a Learning Community where an expectation of student
success is fostered. We believe that communication among parents,
students and teachers is critical in assuring student success.
Together, we achieve success for all our students through the
commitment by students, parents, staff and community to the
District’s Social Contract. Enclosed you will find dates and other
important information for the start of the new school year
.

House Model
A great deal of research suggests that house model schools
contribute to student achievement, attainment and sense of
well-being. Last school year, the ninth grade was used as a pilot
and experienced tremendous success. This year a house model will be
implemented throughout the high school. Each grade level will have
its own team of teachers. The ninth and tenth grade will be housed
on the second floor with the ninth grade occupying the east side
and the tenth grade the west. Eleventh and twelfth grade will
occupy the lower floor of the building.
Dress Code
All students shall attend school dressed in a manner that
follows the Madison Uniform Code of Dress. Clothing and accessories
should not detract from the educational mission of the school.
Dress code will be strictly enforced daily.
Per the federal Safe Schools Act it is prohibited to carry/wear
coats and book bags during the school day. All coats, jackets, and
book bags must be kept in lockers and not carried to classes.
Possession of Electronic Devices and Book Bags
The use of electronic devices: including but not limited to CD
players, video games, radios; I Pods; MP3 players, lasers, etc. are
strictly prohibited on school premises per Madison CUSD #12
District Policy. Electronic devices will be immediately confiscated
and held until the end of the same school term.
Cell phones must be checked in at the beginning of the school
day
.
Daily Routine
One of the secrets to a school’s success is an organized school
routine. Students who arrive on time prepared for the school day
generally have more academic success. Students are expected to
arrive to school prior to 8:20. Arriving on time each day is
critical to your student’s success.
