Message from the Superintendent

Welcome to Madison CUSD #12! We are excited
about the 2009-2010 school year!
This promises to be another rewarding and enriching year for the
Madison Learning Community!
Students attended summer school sessions in June and July. Teachers
and Staff participated in several learning opportunities over the
summer, as well. The custodians have worked very hard to get our
buildings and grounds ready for the opening of school. Our
secretaries have been busy with records and registration. Central
Office staff did a great job of taking care of registration, new
employees, and other business items. Budget work, for our Business
Manager, Toni Cromer, was particularly challenging, given the
State’s inability to provide timely payments and a their share of
funding.
Mr. Mike Miller was hired as the new district Technology Director.
He has worked tirelessly to make sure the district technology is
ready for the start of the new school year. Mr. Lenhardt has also
assisted in that process.
The District held New Teacher/Staff Orientation sessions on August
10, 11, and 12 for 10 new employees. The new session topics
included curriculum, instruction, technology, Accelerated Schools
Plus and Winning With Youth.
Opening Day Teacher/Staff Institute was held August 13 and 14. Dr.
Susan Kovalik, with the International Center for Leadership in
Education, gave a keynote presentation on Brain-Based Teaching and
Learning. Mr. Joe Schechtman, Winning With Youth consultant, and
Ms. Denise Nelson, Accelerated Schools Plus, provided additional
small group sessions on related topics. Administrators met with
their staffs and provided additional information pertinent to their
individual buildings. Food Service staff are to be commended for
the great meals during Teacher/Staff Institute.
Our first District Leadership Team meeting will be September 9 from
4:00-6:00 in the Madison Accelerated High School cafeteria. The DLT
meets the second Wednesday of every month from 4:00-6:00 in the
High School cafeteria. The purpose of the DLT is to act as an
advisory group to the Superintendent and the Board of Education.
Please contact your child’s building principal if you are
interested in participating in DLT. We would like for at least two
parents from each building to participate.
We look forward to joining with our students, parents, teachers,
staff, administration, Board of Education, and community to fulfill
our District Mission of Maximizing every student’s potential to be
successful in the world! Join with us…Together We Can!
