ATTENTION PARENTS:  From the Office

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We have finally reached the end of the school year!  What a enriched academic year it has been.  We appreciate all of the family support we have received for all of our school events, and the assistance provided in helping our students to achieve!
Thanks to all of you who attended our District Health Fair, April 21st!  We had even more vendors than last year come out — I hope you were able to obtain beneficial information.   Our children learned how to conduct themselves when out on the street through the simulated Safety Street Program.  Additionally on April 21st, we had many dads, uncles, grandfathers, and other men from our community come to read to our students during our Real Men Read Day.   We value your continued participation, and look forward to having even more men come out next year!   The ExCEL program hosted last month’s Family Night, April 29th and we had over 200 people attend!  The annual ExCEL’s Got Talent show put on a fantastic showcase.  Harris students do  have talent!  The last day for ExCEL Afterschool is May 6th, 2010.
As we wrap up this school year we would like to remind parents to return Summer Bridges applications if your child was recommended to receive additional reading and mathematic remediation.
The ExCEL Afterschool Program will also be hosting their annual Summer ExCEL program this summer.  First—Third grade students who are enrolled in Summer Bridges will also have an opportunity to participate in exciting hands on activities and fun field trips!  Be sure to complete a packet ASAP!

PARKING:   PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THE NEW SIGNS POSTED ON 7TH STREET.
PARKING DURING PICK UP/DROP OFF:  WE ASK THAT YOU DO NOT DOUBLE PARK ON 7TH STREET.  THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS AND WE WOULD LIKE TO AVOID ANY UNNECESSARY TICKETING/TOWING.
MORNING DROP OFF POLICY:  IF YOUR CHILD ARRIVES AT SCHOOL AFTER 8:00 A.M. THEY MUST BE SIGNED IN AT THE MAIN OFFICE.

Lunch Time/Snack Reminder: Many of our students are bringing soda, candy and large bags of chips to school each day for lunch.  This creates a hardship for us because children are sharing with other students which spreads germs and also causes students to not eat their nutritious school lunch. We are asking that you REFRAIN from sending the large bag of chips and excessive candy and or soda in your child’s lunch effectively immediately!

Behavior Incentive Reminder:
We have put a behavior incentive in place to prevent any more office or bus referrals.  We still have some students who will not stay in their seats. However our Bus Referrals have reduced significantly (more than half) since the beginning of the year!   Beginning Oct. 19 through April 30 any student who doesn’t have any referrals will be invited to a School Dance/Dinner in May 2010.  Last year we invited over 200 students.  Please reinforce the school and class rules with your
son/daughter.

Educationally Yours,
Mrs. Hill, Principal

If your son/daughter is late to school you must come to the office and sign your child in; you can’t send them inside the building alone. This is a district policy.  Also some students are arriving late daily; if this continue we will report the student to the truancy officer.

Buses:

We have had numerous bus referrals which resulted in bus suspensions.  Review the bus rules with your child to ensure safety for all students. Please help us remain referral free!  We currently have three buses that transport our students daily. Bus numbers 91,93,95.  We are proud to say that our discipline has decreased tremendously since the beginning of the year.  We installed cameras on bus 95 to help improve student behavior.  Parents we ask that you  continue to review the bus safety rules with your son/daughter and remind them of the following:
BUS POLICY “3 Strike” Rule
