About Us

Bernard Long Accelerated Elementary School is an educational center catering to the needs of 4th and 5th graders in the Madison Community Unit School District #12.  This building is fully staffed with Highly Qualified professionals to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students. Our school currently has  four  sections  of 4th grade and three sections of 5th grade. Additionally, our students also benefit from Library, Music, Physical Education & Health, Computer Lab, and Art classes.  We have 15 full time certified and 3 non-certified staff members.

Bernard Long Accelerated Elementary School empowers each student to achieve academically, socially, and emotionally, through continued support and positive interventions.  Our students know that college awaits them and the doors of opportunity are there for them to excel and achieve all goals.

2009 Illinois Honor Roll

The Illinois Honor Roll celebrates the accomplishments of exemplary Illinois public schools.

2009 Academic Improvement Award

Bernard Long Accelerated Elementary School has received the 2009 Academic Improvement Award.  This award  honors 147 schools for substantial gains in performance over the last several years. The awards range across all levels from schools where 20% of students are meeting the Illinois Learning Standards to schools where 97% are meeting standards.

To receive an Academic Improvement Award, all schools must achieve the following:

Make significant academic improvement by either of the following:

Showing at least 7.5 point improvement in state test scores in both reading and mathematics between 2008 and 2009 OR showing at least 15 point improvement in state test scores in both reading and mathematics over 2007 - 2009.
Show an upward trend in state test results in both reading and mathematics
